URGENT RESPONSE REQUIRED: EKA Referee Level 1 – Bristol – March 2015

February 19, 2015 in Events

This session is open to anyone who is currently a referee (and not yet qualified), want to get into refereeing now, or are maybe thinking about being a referee in the future.

This session comprises a rules course, taken by Graham Crafter from the EKA, which leads to an ‘exam’ (aka a test of knowledge and understanding). Passing the ‘exam’ gets you to ‘Theory Qualified’ as a referee. For those that want to take it further, there is then the ‘Practical Assessment’ which is needed to become a fully qualified ‘Q’ level referee. Practical assessments are done through observations, etc, throughout the season.

Due to venue hire and personnel required to travel from Kent, we need to know who is interested in participating as a matter of urgency. We are in the process of securing a venue close to Bristol Temple Meads station We have two date options and the decision on date will depend upon uptake. Options are either Sunday 15 March or Saturday 21 March. The session plus ‘exam’ lasts 4 hours.

The Head of Referees (Rob King from Exeter) is coordinating this so please contact him through your club Development Officer / Chair. Responses are required by 1 March 2015 latest.

South West clubs will be well represented in the competition at The City Academy Bristol. The SWKA, Wales and Scotland squads are all fielding players from across our region.

South West area Chair Kevin Allen says, “We are excited to have some of the best players in the country coming to Bristol. It will be a real challenge for the south west squad to better their 3rd place finish in the 2014 competition, but perhaps the home advantage will be the edge we need”.
